Zarif stresses further ties with Latin America

TEHRAN, Apr. 26 (MNA) – In a Mon. meeting with Uruguayan VP Raul Sendic, Iran’s FM Javad Zarif called for expansion of ties in all areas with Latin American countries.

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Uruguayan Vice-President Raul Sendic met on Monday in Tehran and conferred on regional and international issues, as well as ways to cement bilateral ties.

Zarif highlighted the need for closer bilateral and multilateral cooperation under the light of Iran’s prominent and constructive role in regional developments as well as Uruguay’s position as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, saying “Tehran and Montevideo have ample opportunities to promote their continued consultations on regional and global matters.”

He maintained that further cooperation among businessmen and industrialists of both countries with a focus on better financial and banking transactions, can help strengthen Iran and Uruguay’s bilateral ties.

Sendic, for his part, said the sanctions against Iran had further strengthened the country and led to remarkable achievements, and hailed Iran’s approach to expansion of non-oil exports as a result of its resistance and perseverance in the face of limitations.

“We reached an agreement with Iranian officials to establish a joint economic commission aiming at promoting mutual relations and creating a banking mechanism, boosting transactions on health and food products, energy and sports,” Sendic said.

He also maintained that the drop in oil prices was a calculated policy and has dealt severe damage to the economic development and national sovereignty of independent states.
